Waste Containers Monitoring Robot

A crane-mounted self-localising (LiDAR) robot for monitoring safety parameters on nuclear waste packages.

Date: 2022-Present
Industry Project

brief

Our client asked for a solution to monitoring waste containers inside their nuclear facilities - particularly the gas filters present in a gap as small as 80mm between vertically stacked boxes

outcomes

The Waste Container Monitoring Robot has the ability to fit in the canyons between stacks of boxes and in between boxes in a given stack, allowing a range of sensors or cameras to be deployed and feedback information. I was personally responsible for actuated camera & gas sensor package end effector from CAD (Solidworks) to physical build, firmware code and comms (C++).
