VR Dexterity Assessment

A Virtual Reality Platform for Dexterity Assessment and Robot-Assisted Hand Rehabilitation.

Date: 2022
Team Project

brief

Shortfalls in existing dexterity assessments include lack of contextualisation in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as well as lack of a less biased, clinically meaningful and streamlined system for evaluation of different dexterity conditions.

outcomes

Development of a virtual reality (VR) simulation in Unity3D, which was framed and contextualised through a series of dishwasher-related ADL. User trials were conducted with the VR simulation connected to a SenseGlove and Vive sensor tracking system used to virtually teleoperate a simulated OLYMPIC prosthetic arm. Particularly, the system has potential in rehabilitation planning and early diagnosis as it provides clear guidance, automatic testing and a more efficient recording system.
